More information: On 15 June 1986, former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel performed at Amnesty International’s A Conspiracy of Hope event, at Giants Stadium, New Jersey, as part of a line-up that also included Miles Davis, Lou Reed, The Police and an unscheduled appearance by Joni Mitchell.
Later in the year, Gabriel was organising his own charity extravaganzas including the Concert for the University for Peace – also known as “Japan Aid, 1986” – sought to raise funds for a global computer network for UPEACE. Spread across two days at Tokyo’s Jingo Stadium, the event saw performances from artists such as Little Steven, Nona Hendryx and Youssou N’Dour, plus local musicians Yoshihiro Kai and Takako Shirai & Crazy Boys.
Recorded for broadcast, both events came off the back of the release of Gabriel’s UK No.1 album, So, and his sets largely drew from that record, with 'Sledgehammer' tearing the house down on a nightly basis.
Note: Recording quality can vary on FM broadcast releases.
